Halloween, wisdom, magic and muggles

In honor of Halloween and the sweet excitement of my two children, I’ve been looking at pictures of magical things this morning. While I haven’t dressed up in a very long time, I still love this time of year and often connect into the feeling of excitement and mystery that tingles through the air.

Today is a time for remembering the fun of childhood, the magic of ancient times and the thinning of the veil between the worlds. We all have magic in us, and even the most ignorant muggle can sense the tingling on Halloween night.

A tongue-in-cheek Halloween sign is sure to lure in a few party guests. #MarthaStewartLiving

This is a time of reflection over our past year, a time for gratitude for all that we have, and all the lessons we have collected up until now. Honoring our journey happens through reflection and gratitude, and as we sink deeper we access ancient magic that never left us.

Today is the beginning of the cooler season which represents an inward turn, a time of delving deep into our shadow side, much like Inanna and her journey into the underworld, this can be a powerful time of inner work and clearing if we allow it.

In early Ireland, the people of the different gathered at their ritual centers, for Samhain was the first and most important calendar feast of the year.  The greatest assembly was the 'Feast of Tara,' focusing on the royal seat of the High King as the heart of the sacred land, the point of conception for the new year. In every household throughout the land, hearth-fires were put out as all waited for the Druids to light the new fire of the year -- not at Tara, but at Tlachtga.

I have always believed that ‘all time is now, all space is here’ and that each of us has lived many lifetimes in this short span of time, this is a time to draw upon that wisdom, those inner knowings that whisper through our cells. This is the time that the archetype of the Crone speaks through the wind and earth, sharing her wisdom with all who will listen.

Today is a day of magic, so why not be like a child again and have fun with it. This world is full of wonder, and chocolate…lets not forget the chocolate.
