Modern biophysics has confirmed that we’re energy, and not constructed of any real “stuff” anyway, so it’s not that big of a leap to focus on our own personal energy. In my circle of people, talking about energy is nothing special, it’s just what we are. Most people can sense the subtle energy if they want to, by learning how to slow down and pay attention. While not everyone sees it as a shimmering movement, or as colour, most people can have an experience of energetic boundaries if they take the time.
To begin, get comfortable and take some deep breaths ( I know, I know, I’m talking about breathing again). Call your awareness to your breath, and surrender into your chair. Then, check the edges of your own energy field by mentally scanning around your body. Where does it sit? I tell my young daughter it’s her magic bubble, most people have heard the word aura, whatever you call it, the energy behind it is part of your personal space.
You might find that your energy field is wrapped around you, tight, hard to distinguish from your body at all. Or, maybe as you shift your focus your breath changes, stopping or coming in shallow. Take notice of what is here for you. Shifting your focus, you may feel overwhelmed or guarded, like you need to protect yourself from intrusion, or unseen eyes watching. Whatever you sense, just breathe.
Alternatively, your energy may be flying out so far into the world that you feel a little groundless or spacey. Maybe your life-force is reaching way out, busy worrying about (or trying to influence) others…Are you in the room or thinking about so-and-so down the road? Maybe you’ve got your nose in other people’s business, or you’re worrying about that larger than life issue. At this point, you may feel like everything is up in your head. Again, just breathe.
After a bit of a scan to find your boundaries, the next step is to restore your energetic field where it would best serve and empower you.
A healthy aura extends about three feet around the human body, if you stretch out your arms you can get a feel for that amount of space around you, hence why I tell my daughter it’s her magic bubble.
Having our bubble extended doesn’t make us separate from others or to life around us, it actually adds to our visibility and personal vitality. As we claim our place here we have a way to give and receive communication with the world around us in an awakened way.
If your energy feels way out in the far reaches of the universe, floating, call it back to you. You’re in a body for a reason, breathe into your physical form and get connected. And if you feel like you don’t have room to move, that you’re too confined, then claim your rightful space by pushing your energy out a little until you feel comfortable. Its ok to be here.
Notice what happens in your own body as you check your boundaries and bring them back into alignment. Be gentle with your exploration, it’s only energy, and energy is just information.
